Lady Tigers Dominate Nixa Tournament

Softball  Monett vs Republic 7The Lady Tigers softball team outscored its opponents by a combined score of 29-3 to win the Nixa Invitational championship Saturday. The finale was an 8-2 romp over the host Lady Eagles.

Republic opened the day with a 13-1 win over Dora. The Lady Tigers erupted for seven runs in the first inning and the outcome was never in doubt. Angel Serles, Maddy Coates and Stephanie Eckhoff each had three hits.

The Lady Tigers followed up with an 8-0 win over Parkview. They scored early again, putting five runs on the board in the first. Emily Hall drove in three runs. Morgan Cantrell and Caty Eby had two hits apiece.

In the championship game, Republic struck first for the third game in a row. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Maddy Coates and Lauren Strobel singled. After a fielder’s choice, Eckhoff reached on an infield hit to load the bases.

Rachael Michaelis put the Lady Tigers on the board with a 3-run double. Hit by Danielle Shelton, Taylor Gold and Abby Norris made the score 5-0.

Republic scored three more in the 5th, highlighted by three doubles — by Rachael Michaelis, Abby Norris and Maddy Coates.

Nixa scored two runs in the 6th, but never got closer than that.

Republic’s three wins run their record to 14-4 on the season. They’ve won nine of their last ten games. They’ll be back in action Tuesday.
