Greenwood Tops Tigers in Penalty Kicks

SoccerRepublic dominated its match with Greenwood in almost every way — except in goals scored. They ended up dropping their home game 0-0 (4-2) in penalty kicks.

The Tigers missed numerous scoring opportunities in the first 90 minutes, but could never get the ball past Greenwood goalkeeper Evan Loyd, and went to overtime in a scoreless tie.

In two ten-minute overtime periods, it was more of the same. Republic pressed constantly, but couldn’t convert.

Republic coach Mike Hines wants his players to keep the loss in perspective and not get discouraged by it.

“We hit the post three times. We had probably 20 shots on frame. Their keeper made some amazing, amazing saves,” Hines says. “Their keeper was their best player. He showed it again and again and again.”
