Republic baseball coach Howard Quigley has been inducted into the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.

“Words cannot express how rewarding my coaching career has been,” says Quigley. “I have been very fortunate to have been involved with the communities that I have worked with and the coaches that I have worked with. I have been more fortunate to have the parents, brothers, wife and daughters that have been more than anyone could ever dream of.”

Quigley started his head coaching career at Billings, where he won four district championships in five years, and a state title in 1990. The Wildcats won 110 games and lost just 12 in Quigley’s tenure there.

After Billings, Quigley spent five years as head coach in Aurora, leading the Houn’ Dawgs to a 118-41 record and a state quarterfinal appearance in 1994.

Quigley has been at Republic for 15 years, compiling a record of 185-131, a .585 winning percentage.

He picked up his 400th career victory last season. His overall coaching record is 413-184.

“He has four strengths. His passion for the sport, his work ethic, his incredible knowledge of the sport, and his ability to build relationships,” says athletic director Greg Garton. “The people he comes in contact with know that he cares about them off the field.

“And he gives back to our community. During the ice storm or the tornado, he’s out volunteering, and he does it year-round all the time. He’s always there for people,” says Garton. “He’s one of the most unselfish people I’ve known as far as donating time to help people.”
