Republic coach Jim Huson led the statewide push to make bass fishing an officially recognized activity of the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Now he’s led Republic’s team to Missouri’s first-ever bass fishing state championship.

The Republic squad far out-distanced the rest of the 12-school field with 47 points to win the tournament, held Saturday and Sunday. Ozark and Branson each finished with 31 points to lead the rest of the pack.

Out of 55 individual teams, Republic’s Brandon Durr and Colton Mease took second place overall, with a two-day weight of more than 21 pounds.

Another Republic team, Hunter Gill and Evan Bull, finished 7th with a weight of 19.02 pounds.
