Jordan Kabetske and Michayla Shanks both came out on fire as Republic torched Ozark 71-43 in a Central Ozark Conference game Thursday night. The win pushed Republic’s record to 21-2 overall and 6-0 in the COC. (See video highlights below.)

Kabetske and Shanks combined for six three-pointers in the first half. The Lady Tigers made ten three-pointers all together, with Kabetske and Shanks draining four each.

“I think it was pretty evident that we came out and the kids seemed like they were focused. They were up for the game and they were ready to go,” says coach Kris Flood. “We got some quick turnovers, did some things to get some easy baskets. The usual suspects stepped up and played well–hit some shots from the outside, got some stops defensively.”

Ozark managed to stay close for a few minutes, and trailed only 15-11 late in the first quarter. But Republic reeled off the last seven points of the quarter to take a 22-11 lead after one. In the second quarter, Republic outscored Ozark 18-10 to take a 40-21 lead into the break. The lead would have been even bigger, but Kendra Sater hit a running jump shot from beyond half court as the halftime buzzer sounded.

The third quarter was more of the same for Republic, as they stretched the lead to 63-32. Flood emptied his bench in the fourth quarter, and Ozark outscored Republic 11-8 in the final eight minutes.

“I’m very pleased with how we played because it’s been such a crazy week with the weather and out of our routine,” Flood says.

Eleven different players scored for the Lady Tigers. Kabetske scored 21 to lead Republic.  Shanks had 18. Tori Taylor added six. Brooke Stanfield and Alexis Ladwig each scored five. Brylee Argo and Jade Sawyer had four each. Logan Flood scored three. Carly Bayans and Taylor Fergen each scored two, and Allyson Barrett added one.

Republic’s win sets up a showdown at home next Monday with Branson. The COC title will be on the line. A win would give the Lady Tigers the championship outright.
