Late Blasts Power Wildcats Past Republic

Neosho hit two home runs — a game-tying shot in the seventh inning and a game-winner in the bottom of the eighth — to beat Republic Thursday 9-8.

The late heroics by Neosho spoiled a big comeback by Republic. The Tigers had overcome a 6-0 deficit to grab the lead. But with the Wildcats down to their last strike against A.J. Calhoon in the bottom of the seventh, Austin Wren blasted the ball over the scoreboard in left field to tie it up. After the Tigers went 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth, Clint Winchester led off the bottom half of the inning with the game-winner.

The Tigers had nine hits on the day, including two each by Landin Sigman, Josh Gentry, and Max Fricks. Clayton Crowley was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and three RBIs.

Austin Atkins struggled with his control on the mound as the Republic starter. He walked seven and allowed four runs on two hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.Find out how you can get $25 worth of free photos as a subscriber to Republic Tiger Sports magazine. American Family Baseball Tiger of the Game

Sophomore Clayton Crowley made the most of his opportunity to start at second base. Crowley struck out in his first at-bat, but turned it around with a two-run triple his next time up, and drove home another run with a sacrifice fly in his third plate appearance. He’s our American Family Baseball Tiger of the Game.
