Lady Tiger Comeback Bid Falls Short

The Republic Lady Tigers overcame a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to give themselves a chance to tie the game — but a final possession came up empty in a 53-50 loss to Fair Grove in the semifinals of the Pink & White Lady Classic.

Republic trailed by three points with about twelve seconds remaining, but couldn’t get the ball in the basket or draw a foul. It’s the fourth time this season that the Lady Tigers have lost a game in which they had a chance to win or force overtime on their final possession.

“We had a lot of opportunities. It kind of got away from us in the first half, when we dug a hole and got down double digits,” says coach Kris Flood. “We were having trouble taking care of the ball, and we missed several free throws.

“A positive we battled back and showed a lot of heart, a lot of emotion. Now we’re going to see where our character’s at, to see how we bounce back tomorrow. It’s going to be a tough game with Nixa.”

The Lady Tigers play in the third place game against Nixa at 3 pm Friday.

Individual Scoring:
Megan Branstetter 14, Halli Bartelsmeyer 12, Brylee Manes 11, Avy Powell-Qualo 9, Morgan McGuire 3, Anna Bell 1
