Republic pounded away at Rogersville’s defense all night, firing 26 shots and scoring on six of them in a 6-3 win on the road Thursday. Freshman Clara Fronabarger not only scored her first career goal, but she notched her first career hat trick to lead the Lady Tigers. Abbie Hicks added two goals and Anna Jones scored to round out the scoring.
Hicks got Republic on the board in the ninth minute, scoring the team’s first goal of the season after a 4-0 loss to Rolla Tuesday. Fronabarger got the assist.
Fronabarger scored two of her goals within the next nine minutes, one off an assist by Jones, and another assisted by Sarah Hicks. It was the first career assist for Hicks, also a freshman.
Jones finished the scoring in the first half just three minutes before the halftime break with an unassisted goal to give Republic a 4-2 lead.
Republic added two more goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to put the game away. The first was by Hicks, assisted again by Fronabarger. The second was an unassisted goal by Fronabarger, completing her hat trick.
Hauck says it was easy to identify the difference between Thursday’s dominant win and Tuesday’s lackluster loss to Rolla: “Intensity; I think that’s what it boils down to. We played much faster tonight, and more aggressive.
“We changed some stuff going into tonight that we thought would give us a bigger advantage and it really seemed to work out there for us,” Hauck says. “And we were more creative offensively, and I think that opened things up as well.”
Republic improves to 1-1. They play next on March 27, when they host Springfield Parkview.
